You know that commercial with the guy who sings about having bad credit? There are a few of them, all featuring him and his buddies... not being able to get what they want because they can't get approved for ANYTHING; houses, cell phones, cars. My favorite is the one where they're in a really busted-up tiny car getting laughed at by some hot girls in the convertible next to them. It's a funny commercial, but if you actually have bad credit it might hit too close to home to actually be considered a laughing matter.
Bearing in mind about 40% of the people in this country have credit scores below 620, I'm almost shocked that those commercials are as popular as they are. But knowing your credit score and being able to get what you need in spite of it are two very different things. Not a lot of companies want to deal with customers who are considered "high risk" because of their low credit rating- Especially car dealerships and their lending financial institutions. But with so many car manufacturers going under because of the currently dismal economy, numerous companies are changing their tune about sub-prime lending.
In fact, a lot of car dealerships have special financing departments dedicated to getting customers with bad credit car loans on new or used vehicles. The sub-prime market is a growing sale generator for a lot of dealerships. Just because these people have bad credit does not mean that they can't afford a car; dealers know this, and more and more of them are willing to help acquire a loan for their sub-prime customers if it means they are going to make a sale.
Most people who have bad credit don't need to check a website to know that they have bad credit. It follows them everywhere. Or it calls them 20 times a day on the phone in the form of debt collectors. Having bad credit is frustrating, but it's not the end of the world. Knowing that there are companies out there still willing to work with you, in spite of that bad credit helps alleviate some of that frustration. So the next time you see or hear one of those commercials with the dorky guy, singing about having bad credit, don't be afraid to laugh.
